SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Juan Alanis announced today that his financial literacy bill has passed the Senate. The bill, aimed at improving education quality across California, seeks to equip students with essential tools for future success.
"I am proud that AB 1871 has advanced through both the Assembly and Senate with bipartisan and bicameral support," said Assemblyman Alanis. "This bill will help prepare young Californians to be more financially educated adults. I know this is something that would have helped me as a young man and I urge the Governor to sign this important legislation into state law to best prepare our students for their futures."
AB 1871 aims to increase financial literacy rates among students in grades 7-12 by incorporating personal finance into the social studies curriculum. The goal is to ensure all students receive valuable financial education before graduating high school and becoming legal adults.
The bill now heads to the Governor’s Office for consideration of a signature.
Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, and Empire.
