Assemblymember Juan Alanis issued a statement on June 7, 2024, regarding the "California Together Against Retail Theft" package and its proposed amendments. Alanis emphasized his commitment to public safety and bipartisan cooperation.
"I joined this bipartisan package of important public safety bills to deliver on my promise to find common ground wherever possible to deliver quick action and real results on public safety issues like retail theft," Alanis stated. He expressed initial support for the bill package as a significant step toward addressing retail theft in California. "This bill package is not just a set of bills; it’s a testament to our commitment to the safety and security of Californians."
However, Alanis voiced concerns about potential new amendments. "I am frustrated with and have questions about the possible proposed new amendments," he said. Concluding his statement, Alanis reaffirmed his dedication to good-faith negotiations and being a voice of reason throughout the legislative process.
