SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Juan Alanis announced today that his bill, AB 2436, has successfully passed the Senate Floor with unanimous support. This bipartisan bill aims to protect California’s cattle producers and support the operations of the California Bureau of Livestock Identification.

“Costs have increased due to inflation, the push for electric vehicles, and other economic changes,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “AB 2436 will let the Bureau adjust its fees responsibly so they can continue protecting our livestock producers without causing extra financial stress.”

AB 2436 will adjust existing livestock identification fees to help the Bureau maintain its important livestock inspection services by covering rising costs. The California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Bureau of Livestock inspects livestock to protect cattle owners from theft, loss, and other risks. These inspections also support investigations and prosecutions in cattle theft cases.

“I’m committed to updating our laws to address the changing needs of our agricultural industry,” said Alanis. “AB 2436 is a common-sense solution to the financial challenges faced by California’s farmers and ensures that the Bureau can effectively carry out its important work.”

AB 2436 passed the Senate unanimously and now awaits the Governor’s signature. This is the fifth Alanis bill to clear the legislature this year.
