Assemblymember Juan Alanis has introduced a series of bills in response to California's affordability crisis and to enhance workforce development. These legislative efforts focus on child care, dental health care, and the fast-food industry.
Alanis highlighted the pressing issue of affordable child care across the state, including in his district. "The lack of affordable child care has become a pressing issue across the state, including in my district," he stated. To address this, AB 318 aims to simplify the licensing process for new child care businesses by requiring the Department of Social Services (DSS) to offer digital applications and accept credit card payments.
In addition to child care, Alanis is addressing the shortage of dental health professionals with AB 873. This bill seeks to balance necessary training for dental assistants while expanding access to quality dental care statewide. "I have also introduced AB 873 to help address the shortage of dental health care professionals," Alanis explained.
Alanis also plans amendments for AB 244 after discussions with local fast-food franchise owners about industry challenges. The amended bill will propose an Apprenticeship Program for fast-food restaurants, providing monetary incentives for small businesses and franchises that develop training programs and recruit new employees. "After hearing from local fast-food franchise owners about the challenges facing their industry, I have decided to amend AB 244 which is one of my spot bills," said Alanis.
Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents California's 22nd Assembly District, covering several communities including Modesto and Turlock.
