Assemblymember Juan Alanis proudly announced yesterday that two of his K-12 education bills, AB 1796 and AB 1871, have successfully passed out of the Assembly Education Committee unanimously. AB 1796 requires local educational agencies to inform parents and guardians about dual enrollment and International Baccalaureate courses available at their child's school. Alanis emphasized the importance of this bill, stating, "This bill aims to boost communication and transparency between schools, students, and parents and guardians."
The second bill, AB 1871, focuses on incorporating personal finance into the curriculum for students in grades 7-12. Alanis highlighted the significance of financial literacy by saying, "AB 1871 is a critical step in ensuring that our future generations have a well-rounded knowledge of personal finance." He emphasized the impact of low financial literacy scores on communities of color and the importance of providing a foundation for learning about financial matters.
Both bills have now advanced to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for further consideration. AB 1871 has garnered support from both chambers of the legislature, indicating its importance and potential impact on education in the state.
Assemblymember Juan Alanis, representing the 22nd Assembly District, which includes various communities, is dedicated to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for students in California.
