Assemblyman Juan Alanis expressed his satisfaction as his bill, AB 1880, successfully moved out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee with unanimous bipartisan support. "This bill recognizes the evolving landscape of entertainment and the unique challenges faced by young individuals participating in online content creation," stated Assemblyman Alanis. He emphasized the importance of extending protections to child influencers to create a safer environment for youth in the digital realm.

AB 1880 aims to extend the regulations of the Coogan Law to cover contracts involving child influencers in paid online content. Assemblyman Alanis highlighted that this amendment ensures that child influencers receive the same legal protections and financial safeguards as traditional artists. The Coogan Law, originally enacted in 1939, was designed to protect child actors by setting up trust accounts for a portion of their earnings. AB 1880 seeks to update and expand this law to address the modern entertainment industry's reliance on social media platforms and online content creation.

Assemblyman Alanis reaffirmed his commitment to granting child influencers the legal rights and financial security they deserve. With its success in the Assembly Judiciary Committee, AB 1880 now proceeds to the Assembly Floor for a vote by the entire Assembly.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, including various communities such as Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, and others.
