Assemblymember Alanis announced today that his bill to support California’s horse racing industry by expanding race day wager offerings to include the prestigious Whitney Stakes has passed the Assembly, marking its final step in the Legislature.

“California has long been among the most prominent hubs for horse racing around the globe. AB 1946 supports the state’s historic horse racing venues and the employees who rely on these important jobs,” said Alanis.

AB 1946 would add the Whitney Stakes to the group of races exempt from the 50-race-per-day limit on imported races in California.

“By allowing the Whitney Stakes to be included in the imported race offerings, we can boost wagering activity, leading to increased revenues for California’s racing fairs and satellite wagering facilities. This surge in revenue could have a ripple effect, benefitting local businesses and creating more job opportunities within the industry,” Alanis added.

AB 1946 passed the Senate 40-0 and the Assembly 75-0. It now heads to the Governor for final action.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson & Empire.
