SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Juan Alanis celebrated the signing of AB 1996 today, a bill aimed at enhancing public safety and health in California’s entertainment venues.

“I am proud to announce that my bill to improve access to opioid reversal medications in public entertainment spaces has been signed into law by the Governor,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “We cannot take our foot off the gas in addressing the opioid crisis, which continues to worsen across California and in my district.”

AB 1996 mandates that staff and emergency responders at stadiums, concert venues, and amusement parks be informed about the location of life-saving opioid reversal medications. Opioid antagonists, such as Narcan, can help save lives, and this bill ensures that these locations are widely known, improving response times during emergencies.

“I appreciate the support from my colleagues on this bill and am grateful to the Governor for helping make our communities safer,” added Assemblymember Alanis. “While there is still much work to do, I remain committed to working across the aisle to achieve common-sense solutions to the challenges facing Californians.”

AB 1996 is the third Alanis-authored bill signed into law this year and is his eighth overall since he entered office in 2023.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson & Empire.
