SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Juan Alanis announced today that his bill on the accessibility of opioid reversal medication received a final vote on the Assembly floor and passed successfully with no opposition.

“This bill is an important measure to help protect our state amidst the fentanyl epidemic,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “By ensuring that these life-saving tools are available, we are helping to save numerous lives.”

AB 1996 aims to improve response time to opioid-related emergencies in public entertainment spaces such as stadiums, amusement parks, and concert venues by ensuring that venue staff and other emergency responders are aware of the location of opioid reversal medications.

“We cannot afford to take our foot off the gas in the fight against opioids,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “AB 1996 is a common-sense measure that improves public safety by ensuring that public entertainment spaces are prepared to respond to overdose emergencies in a timely manner.”

AB 1996 will now advance to the Governor for his consideration.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, and Empire.
