WASHINGTON – Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) issued the following statement on co-introducing Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29)’s bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act:

“As a California native, I know Dreamers – they’ve played sports with my children, broke bread with my family and friends, and have played a critical role in our communities.

The American Dream and Promise Act represents an opportunity for us to embrace these values and honor the spirit of our ancestors who built this country. This bipartisan legislation offers a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, who were brought to the US as children and have known no other home but our beloved land. These children have grown up alongside us, attended our schools, and contributed to our communities. They are our neighbors, friends, and colleagues, and they deserve a chance to live up to their full potential.

We all understand the importance of secure borders and upholding the rule of law. We recognize the need for comprehensive immigration reform that addresses the root causes of illegal immigration while providing a fair and compassionate solution for those who are already here. 

The American Dream and Promise Act offers certainty and stability to these Dreamers who have been stuck in a state of uncertainty, fearing deportation to a country they may barely remember. By providing them with a pathway to citizenship, we empower them to plan for their futures, invest in themselves and their communities, and fully embrace the responsibilities and privileges of the American Dream.

I urge my fellow Members, both Democrat and Republican alike, to support this bill. Let’s embrace the transformative power of this legislation, ensuring that we honor the contributions of these young Dreamers, uphold the rule of law, and work toward a brighter future for all Americans,” said Rep.
