WASHINGTON – On May 24, Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 467, the HALT Fentanyl Act:

“Fentanyl is a crisis in our Valley. Far too many working families have faced the ultimate heartache – losing their loved ones to overdose without the chance to say goodbye. It is past time that Washington gives our local law enforcement the tools they need to keep us safe. That is why I am proud to join both Democrats and Republicans in voting for the HALT Fentanyl Act.

Drug overdoses are the number one cause of death among adults ages 18-49. In 2022 alone, over 100,000 people across our country died from drug overdoses.

This bill is a crucial step to keep us safe. The HALT Fentanyl Act supplies our Valley law enforcement with the tools they need to keep dangerous drugs off our streets, supports research into fentanyl’s devastating effects, and makes the class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances permanent. I am proud to take action for our Valley – lives are on the line,” said Rep. Duarte.
