California State University, Stanislaus issued the following announcement on Nov. 25.

This month, our November recap of recognitions, accolades, awards, gifts and honors for the Stanislaus State campus community includes students and staff acknowledged for their leadership, hard work and generosity and the University landing in national rankings.

- The Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI) selected Stanislaus State’s Jasmin Cornejo, Stephanie Gamboa and Vanessa Hernandez for its Student Scholars Leadership Program. The organization, committed to increasing representation of Hispanics in computing in both higher education and the workforce, named 11 undergraduate student scholars this year, eight of them Latina. Applicants demonstrated exceptional achievement in technical knowledge and service to the community.
- Stan State’s Undocumented Student Services Coordinator Polet Hernandez was recognized by Rep. Josh Harder as a “Rising Latino Leader” as part of his inaugural Latino Leadership Awards. “Polet inspires and motivates everywhere she goes and promotes the importance of pursuing higher education and graduate school as an undocumented person,” Rep. Harder said.
- Michael Taylor represented the voice of students during a systemwide panel on research and programs that support students’ basic needs. The discussion kicked off National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week Nov. 15-22.
- The University continues to rack up rankings for its academic excellence and quality programs. The most recent commendation is from college review aggregator College Consensus, which ranked the Master of Business Administration program No. 24 in California.
- Adrianna Sahlman, a first-year student in Stanislaus State’s Master of Social Work program, was one of 122 students placed in internships despite the COVID pandemic. She’s interning virtually with the Reinvent South Stockton Coalition and is focusing on the organization’s trauma initiative.
- The Stanislaus State Chapter of the California Faculty Association (CFA) donated $10,000 to the Campus Cares Student Emergency Fund in a crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $27,000 — well over the campaign’s $25,000 goal. CFA started the fund to help students stay at Stan State even in the face of financial adversity.
