SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Juan Alanis has issued a statement expressing his support for Senate Bill 1414, a bill aimed at making child sex trafficking a felony in California. The statement comes in response to the Senate Public Safety Committee's recent actions on the bill.

"I am proud to be a co-author on SB 1414, led by Senator Shannon Grove, who has been fearless in her fight against the sex trafficking of children," said Assemblyman Juan Alanis, highlighting his collaboration on the crucial legislation.

Alanis emphasized the importance of treating the selling and purchasing of children for sex as a felony in California, drawing from his experience as a former crimes against children detective. He noted the severe impact such crimes have on children, advocating for stronger measures to combat child sex trafficking.

Expressing his frustration with amendments made to the bill in the Senate Public Safety Committee, Alanis remarked, "The amendments forced on Senator Grove yesterday are difficult to reconcile against common sense and decency." He also expressed disappointment that the original version of SB 1414 will not proceed to the Assembly Public Safety Committee for consideration.

Despite setbacks, Alanis affirmed his commitment to protecting children from sexual predators, stating, "I will continue to support any effort to protect our kids." He extended gratitude to Senator Grove for her unwavering leadership on the issue of combatting child sex trafficking.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, encompassing various communities in California, including Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, and others.
