The United States and Israel carried out a series of strikes against the Iranian government last night, marking an escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The strikes follow weeks of attempted negotiations and unrest that have reportedly resulted in thousands of civilian deaths in Iran.
In response to rising tensions, the U.S. has recently deployed additional military assets to the region, including thousands of servicemembers. Many American personnel are currently stationed in Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—areas that have already begun experiencing military activity.
Assemblymember Juan Alanis released a statement addressing these developments. “Barbara and I are praying for our brave servicemembers stationed throughout the region. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment to serve our country as they take on the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.”
Alanis also expressed concern for civilians affected by the conflict. “We are also praying for the citizens of the Middle East, who have all been affected by this conflict. We all share a hope for a future that is peaceful and prosperous, where citizens of every nation can live with sovereignty, dignity, and security.”
Assemblymember Alanis represents California’s 22nd Assembly District, which includes communities such as Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson and Empire.
